The prizes of the “Fatih’s Diary Contest” organized traditionally every year by Esenler Municipality on the 571st anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul found their owners. Speaking at the program, Mayor of Esenler M. Tevfik Goksu said, “The recent events in Gaza have shown that the hope of the world is again the children of these lands.”

Esenler Municipality hosted the award ceremony of “Fatih’s Diary Contest” organized for Esenler middle school students on the 571st anniversary of the conquest of the holy city of Istanbul. The students, who wrote their own conquest dreams by reading the book “Fatih’s Diary” written by Israfil Kurt, also had the opportunity to improve their writing skills with the contest. Esenler Mayor M. Tevfik Goksu, Esenler District Director of National Education Feyzullah Sert, Esenler AK Party District Chairman Emrullah Erkus, Esenler Municipality Deputy Mayor Mehmet Celik, teachers and many students attended the award ceremony held at Dr. Kadir Topbas Culture and Arts Center. At the award ceremony, where moments of enthusiasm were experienced, the Mehteran show was highly appreciated. At the end of the program, the winning students were presented with their awards. Berra Su Ekici came first, Yusuf Eymen Yıldırım came second and Zehra Piskin came third at the end of the contest.

We must show that the oppressed are not abandoned

Speaking at the program, Mayor of Esenler M. Tevfik Goksu said, “If there is no justice on earth today, if there is no conscience, if children are being killed alive by bombs in Gaza today, if women are being burned, if their houses are being destroyed, know that it is because we are not on earth. We are the children of such a nation that if there is an oppressed person somewhere, we are the children of a nation that has sent navies to rescue them regardless of their religion, language, race or color. Because the religion of the oppressed is not asked. This is our belief. All of you are watching the suffering in Gaza on TV with pity and sadness. Then there must be something we can do. Fatih Sultan Mehmet Khan left us Istanbul. The young commander opened an era and closed an era. He made Istanbul our home. Now, with Fatih’s decree, wherever there is injustice and unscrupulousness in the world, we, as their descendants, we must put forth such an effort. We must show that no oppressed person on earth is without a master and that we stand by them. I hope that you will be young people who have this awareness with the inspiration we received from our ancestors, and that these inspirations will carry you into the future. Just as Fatih was a statesman who opened and closed an era, you will be the beautiful people who close and build the era of evil on earth.”
